SHIRLAND MEMORIES PERPETUATED
After suffering with severe illness for a number of weeks, the lady who gave her name to Shirland St, Mrs Ann Holmes the wife of Robert Holmes, passed away at her residence at Sheffield Road sic Berkshire House 2, Shirland St, on Sunday (30th March) in her 68th year. Mrs Holmes, who was under the care of Dr Hurst, and was a member of a very old family, the Blounts, had removed to Chesterfield 25 years ago. Mr Holmes had purchased a field from the late Duke of Devonshire and opened out the extensive street running from Sheffield Rd to what is now known as Infirmary Rd.
